It has 12 floors which were termed as the first tallest building in India. The first skyscraper that is the LIC building was first built in 1959. Since then, the Renaissance period of buildings has started in the country. Though this wasn’t the only building that was made, cause later, this record was surpassed by the Usha Kiran Building.

Usha Kiran Building was built in Mumbai in the year 1961. It is a 25 storied building that broke the past record of the LIC building. After the success of these two buildings, many other buildings sprang up, and the age of skyscrapers started in India. People started liking the concept, and the World One building in Mumbai topped out after all the buildings. This building stands at the height of 919 feet and with approximately 76 floors! This building is considered the tallest building in the country and definitely will replace Supertech  Supernova Spira in Noida.

In Mumbai alone, there are 200 skyscrapers, and 5,600 other high buildings exist in the metropolitan area. The capital of the country, Delhi, is also far ahead with almost 18 skyscrapers and over 5000 high Buildings. Let’s now take a look at the city of Joy Kolkata. Currently, Kolkata doesn’t have a lot of tall buildings like Mumbai, but still, it is home to 800 tall buildings and now we are going to talk about these. Still, many more buildings are under construction, and we can’t wait to take a look at them. But for now, let’s talk about the other buildings. I’ll mention only some specific buildings cause it is impossible to jot down 800 buildings in a single blog. Most of the high-rise buildings and skyscrapers in Kolkata are around the Chowringhee area. It is known as the major business area. Not only the Chowringhee area some of the buildings are also present in the Newtown area, and the EM Bypass area has high-line buildings as well. The city first had its tallest building in the year 1963. It was a Tata center 18 storied building. Except for the earlier-mentioned areas, the Babughat area and also BBD Bag has several high-rise buildings. But currently, the Salt-lake city area and Rajarhat area are flourishing rapidly, so these areas have quite several high-rise buildings and skyscrapers.

This building is the tallest building in West Bengal and in Kolkata, obviously. This is a residential building for Jeevan Sudha and a commercial building for TATA. The idea was approved in 2008, but the work was delayed for almost two years. The building was completed in the year 2019, and surprisingly, the building was the tallest building in the country. The premise where the building is structured by a Maharaja (King) from Darbhanga. It is a 65 storied building, and indeed it’s beautiful. Forum Atmosphere

Let’s now talk about Forum Atmosphere. Atmosphere or the forum Atmosphere is a luxury residential and a superstructure in Kolkata. This building is really special as it has a floating sky structure and that too world’s first floating sky structure. It looks really beautiful, and I’m certain you’ll like it as well. The building is located in Topsia EM Bypass, and it is owned by Ayan Ali. The building is 499 feet tall, and the floor count is 39. The term for that floating part is ‘Deya,’ which means cloud in Bengali. This Deya is a very small bridge-like structure that connects the two buildings beautifully. Certain facilities are available for the residents here, including a gym, spa, cinema, swimming pool, etc.

The Westin

The Westin is a luxury hotel in the Rajarhat area, and this is also one of the high-rise buildings. The hotel is fully equipped and beautifully decorated for the guests to stay there. The project was completed in 2013, and the floor count is 35 floors. The height of the building is 492 feet.

South City Oak

A very famous building in the south Kolkata Tollygunge region. It is situated on Anwar Shah road. This complex has several towers, and it is also considered the heart of the city. The construction of this project started in 2004 after it got its approval.

The project ended in the year 2010, and since then, a lot of Tollywood (Bengali actors or actresses) celebrities have stayed here along with other people as well. The height of this complex tower is 384 feet. There are 34 floors present in it. The South City complex has not only residential units but also a vast shopping mall that represents national and international brands and an International school called the South City International School. It consists of an infirmary as well and also a social club.

Everything comes in one single plot, which makes it easier for the residents living there to use the facilities. Comes with a big parking lot as well for the residents to park their cars. The residential complex comes with five towers. The four towers have a similar 35-floor count, but the other tower has 15 floors in it. The South City Oak towers are also considered the second tallest building in Eastern India. There are names for the four towers, which is respectively names as Oak, pine, maple, and cedar.

Now let’s move on to some other states and take a look at the buildings there. Now we’ll move on to the capital of India, and that is Delhi.

Delhi NCR

Delhi is the capital of India, and it is also considered the largest metropolis city in the country. There are over 5000 high-rise buildings in the city, and even more will add to the number. Approximately more buildings are under construction, and in a year or two, the number will increase to 6000 or so.

Supernova Spira

Let’s start with the tallest building present in Delhi. The tallest skyscraper in the Noida region. The exact location of this building is Sector 94 Amrapali, and it is the tallest tower in North India. The construction started in 2012, and it will open in 2022. Preparations are mostly done, though. The height of the building is 984 feet, and the floor count of the building is 80. We can’t wait to witness the tallest building in Northern India and this beauty as well.

Civic Center

Now let’s talk about this building which is the civic Center, located in Delhi as well. This is a skyscraper with a consisting height of 100 meters. The structure and the framework of the building are a bit different than other buildings that we have talked about. The building is a multistoried building that comprises four six-storied buildings, and one tower consists of 28 story tower block. The building is mainly used for commercial and governmental purposes. However, there is a library, a museum, and also a clubhouse as well inside. The building was constructed in the year 2010, and since then, it has been considered one of the tallest buildings in Delhi.

Civic Centre

Hansalaya is generally used for commercial purposes. This building stands at the height of 88 meters and consists of 21 floors. This building is located in Connaught place in Delhi, and it was established in the year 1971.

Hindustan Times House

Now, this is a very popular building as this building belongs to the famous newspaper house and that is Hindustan Times. This is also considered one of the largest newspaper companies in India. The height of this building is 80 meters, and it consists of 18 floors. The building was constructed in the year 1973.

Demolishing of a Tower in India

Recently twin towers in Noida were demolished in Noida cause it is situated on the wrong track, which can later affect the houses present there. This was also considered as it was even taller than Qutub Minar (a historical monument). The twin towers were taken down just in nine seconds! To take down the building, 3500kg detonators were used. As they telecasted this news, it was destroyed just in a blink. Luckily, no neighboring building was harmed during this process. The name of the two towers were The Apex and Ceyane Towers. The height of Apex is 335 feet, and the height of Ceyane is 312 feet. On 28 August, the building was finally destroyed.

Problems of Making a High Rise Building

These tall buildings do look beautiful, but it comes with 99 problems, and here I’m stating a few of them.

  • The real challenge is to make it earthquake resistant. Cause one tall building, if it comes down, can destroy several other buildings, roads, and everything.
  • the structure must be lightweight compared to an average height building. It is necessary to use HPC for construction.
  • it gets problematic to repair and maintain.
  • The building must be wind resistant as well.
  • it takes a lot of time for a building to stand up.
